The pandemic has certainly affected the price of steel. Since the pandemic, timber production has slowed down. The price of timber has increased greatly because of the lack of supply. The low timber supply and increase in its price, has increased the demand for steel.
For example, in the timber market, plywood has gone up 3 to 4 times its previous price. A $7 sheet of plywood now costs between $20 and $25. Therefore, the cost of building with wood has also gone up tremendously
Tariffs have decreased the availability of foreign steel. No, Capital Steel does not use or recommend foreign steel. However, since other metal companies can’t get steel from other countries, this demand for American made steel has caused the rise in its pricing.
Capital Steel Industries is raising its pricing 20% on January 1, 2021
All steel building systems that are quoted now reflect this 20% increase. To avoid this increase, customers can purchase their building system by signing a contract and putting down a 20% deposit by December 31, 2020.
Additionally, Capital Steel anticipates another increase by January 31, 2021. Capital Steel Industries wants customers to know about this additional increase that will happen at the end of January 2021 so there are no surprises for you.
